Worldwide, Inc. Project Technical Lead § Managed 14 programmers in a large database migration project under a consulting contract. Language used was PL/1, Perl, VB6, MS Office Automation (Excel only) § Created a code generator utility that would read program specifications from an Excel spreadsheet and generate program templates, requiring the programmers to concentrate efforts on the interesting stuff. § Took this project from being behind schedule to on schedule, under budget. |

1980–1997 DIALOG Information Service Mountain View, CA Senior Programmer-Analyst § Designed and wrote prototype of the 2nd generation of the DIALOG search engine using the Pascal language (IBM Mainframe dialect). § Designed and implemented the menu front-end system for the DIALOG search system, also in Pascal. § Designed and implemented the prototype of the first DIALOG Web Interface, using HTML, C++, Perl, and CGI programs, using both Unix and Windows systems interacting with the mainframe system. § Designed and implemented the automated documentation update system that synchronized and regenerated on a daily basis all forms of the DIALOG Bluesheet documentation collection, in print, web, and legacy online database forms, which involved VB, PL/1, and C++, and an Oracle database. § Developed a real-time newswire data monitor, in C, that could manage 8 high-speed serial inputs simultaneously on an early 286-based PC running MS-DOS. Product Analyst § Set up the U.S. Census database on the DIALOG system. (Marketed as the CENDATA system). Language used was PL/1. § Created a PC-based front-end program for managing census information in conjunction with the DIALOG CENDATA database system. PC part was written in C. § Implemented a comprehensive database of US Merchandise exports. § Developed a number of Database conversion and loading programs using PL/1. |

Assistant Scientist § Developed (for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission) an improved method for estimating health risks associated with energy production systems, which was used in the analysis of Three Mile Island. System written in FORTRAN, implementing a PL./1 – like macro language. § Contributed to several Environmental Impact Assessments. |
